The forthcoming World Surf League’s (WSL) Thomo QS 1000, Live Like Zander Junior Pro and the Independence Women’s Pro contests are expected to bring over 600 visitors to the island.
This was revealed by director of Surf Promotions Barbados, Luis Venezia, ahead of the events scheduled for next weekend November 7-10at the Soup Bowl, Bathsheba.
“We will probably have over 600 arrivals between these three events because with the competitors parents come and coaches, photographers, press and various other people as well. It’s probably about 250 competitors alone,” he said.
“Where the value to Barbados comes is that we have a live webcast that goes out and then that continues to replay throughout the year so every time someone watches, it just continues to promote Barbados not only during the event but throughout the entire year,” he said.
Though most of the surfers are coming from North America, there are also surfers from Venezuela, Columbia, Chile, France, Costa Rica and Panama. (RG)
