Dear Christine,
I HAVE KNOWN YOU for a very long time and you know of some of my problems which you have helped me with before. But there seems to be no end to my problems. It has to do with the father of my children.
He has refused to buy food and pay any of our bills. I had hoped he would change after he was baptised.
He is vexed with me for taking him to court for money and so he sits and drinks and eats in front of the children and gives them the leftovers. He also threatened to kill me.
Christine, this man also assaulted my teenage daughter. She went outside to bathe and he hid behind the bathroom door. He then covered her mouth, removed her clothing and kissed her breasts.
I called the police and they put him in court and he would not turn up. This is more that three years since this incident and absolutely nothing has been done about it. It is time this man is removed from our home.
My brother came to live with us. He was the one who used to give us a little money for food and bus fare. Now he has his own troubles. My husband slapped him and threatened to kill him. He got a cutlass and ordered my brother out of the house. He is still there but that man would not let him be in peace.
Christine, I am not working and my brother gives me a little money to take care of me and the little ones at school. My husband does not want him to help me and the children. And this is a man who professes to be a Christian.
This is what this man does to me. He cut me on my head once and curses me. He walks about telling people I cannot cook and so he does not give me any money. Yet he buys expensive things for himself.
He has even threatened to destroy our house. I need help. What can I do?
– Sad Mother.
Dear Sad Mother,
I am truly very sorry to hear of the horrible things you seem to have to put up with from this man and I am very puzzled to know that despite you getting the police involved and them ordering him to court he has not turned up, and they seem to have done absolutely nothing about it! There must be a reason somewhere . . . but where?
It is hard for me to believe the police would allow this man to make fools of them. If what you say is so, when he did not turn up when legally ordered to do so they should have had him arrested.
I doubt that they are afraid of him as you are. Something is not right and so I suggest you return to the police station and repeat your need for their help.
I know you are a mother in need of help and I’ll see you soon.
Don’t give in to this man – Go again to the police.
– CHRISTINE
