A record 80 competitors took part in the Long Bay Community Walk, Run, Cycle event, which entered its 14th year on Sunday with a new finishing line just outside Roslyn’s Bar on the path to the historic Sam Lord’s Castle in St Philip.
Shamel Maynard led home 44 runners in an impressive time of 17:41, beating Jerome Blackett by just four seconds while Ackeem Rowe placed third in a time of 17:53.
The ever-improving Jane Evelyn was the first female home, but more significantly she crossed the line 12th overall in a time of 24:45.
Former winner Drewann Clarke, who was a long-distance runner for Springer Memorial, took the second spot ahead of Christ Church Foundation School’s 14-year-old Deneisha Forde. (KB)
