Dowrich, Chandrika in 14-member squad for first Test

SHANE DOWRICH and Rajindra Chandrika were today announced in the 14-member West Indies cricket squad for the first Test of the International Test Series against Australia for the Frank Worrell trophy.

Dowrich, 23, the Barbadian wicketkeeper/batsman and opener Chandrika 25, are yet to earn their international caps, but both impressed in the recent President’s XI three-day match in North Sound, Antigua.

Dowrich scored half centuries in both innings – 78 and 53 not out – in the drawn contest. He has played 43 first class matches and has a batting average of 37.46. Dowrich has three centuries and 12 half centuries, with a highest score of 131 not out.

Chandrika, a right handed batsman from Guyana, scored 74 in the first innings of the President’s XI match, but made a “duck” in the second innings.

Overall, he has played in 32 first-class matches, scoring 1487 runs at an average of 25.81 with eight half-centuries.

With the exception of Shivnarine Chanderpaul who has been dropped, all of the other players featured in the recently concluded series against England.

The first Test match starts on Wednesday at Windsor Park, Dominica.
