CABLE & WIRELESS has seen a resurgence of its performance in Barbados, earning $112 million in pre-tax profits up to the end of March.
Speaking earlier today in a conference call with Caribbean journalists, C&W Communications chief executive officer (CEO) Phil Bentley also announced that Barbados was in the running with Jamaica for a new call centre that would provide 200 new jobs.
At the same time, Bentley said having decided to go with FLOW over the LIME brand, the company would be rebranding the business in Barbados first, something he expected to be completed “towards the end of 2015”.
“We had a very good year in Barbados actually. Our profits in Barbados were US$56 million before depreciation and tax and interest and everything else. That was 36 per cent up on last year so we have grown revenues, mobile revenues are up and we have been saving money,” the CEO said.
“Overall Barbados was a good story, a seven per cent growth in mobile subscribers. Together FLOW and LIME invested US$80 million in Barbados.”
When its financial year end on March 31, the overall group had $1.1 billion in earnings (a seven per cent increase), while revenue grew by four per cent. (SC)
