TEACHERS UNIONS in Barbados are in unanimous agreement with a judicial officer that theirs should be designated an essential service.
That is as far as the agreement with Magistrate Graveney Bannister goes, however.
While president of the Barbados Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools, Vere Parris, did not want to respond “at this time”, his counterparts in the other three unions were more forthcoming.
The contention is that teaching is already an essential service because of the value of the work they do, and that it should be reflected in the respect, compensation and other benefits accorded to essential service providers. (YB)
