IT’S NOW OFFICIAL. Barbados’ star athlete Akela Jones is staying with the heptathlon in the long term.

The multi-skilled Kansas State University student placed second in her first heptathlon last month and says she has decided to concentrate on it, hoping to qualify for the event at next year’s Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

She made the revelation to NATION SPORTS following the announcement that she was voted the top female athlete at her university for 2014.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a number of years and finally my coach said I could be really good at it so I don’t have anything to lose; I already have national records in my events so I decided this could be the best event for me. Things are looking good right now so I decided to continue with it,” she stated with her trademark self-confidence.
