DESPITE REACHING a temporary agreement, the Private Waste Haulers group say they will still be pursuing alternative dumping arrangements to the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre Inc. (SBRC) facility at Vaucluse, St Thomas.
Managing director of Simpson Trucking & Skip Services, Charles Read, told the DAILY NATION: “There is an economic benefit to diverting cover and construction material to quarries at reduced costs. While we have to dump municipal solid waste at SBRC, we are trying to retain the best values for our customers.”
Read said the move was not a personal one against Government or the SBRC, but solely a way to keep costs down, both for themselves and their customers. He said only very specific waste would be dumped in the quarries as there was an environmental concern. (CA)
