IT’S OFFICIAL. The worst fear of Barbadians about increased crime from the beginning of this year has been realised by the statistics.
Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith said yesterday there was a 14 per cent spike in crime during the first three months of 2015. These include assaults, illegal drug possession and fraud. There was also a slight rise in theft from the person, robberies and aggravated burglaries.
Explaining the increase, Griffith said the rise in assaults was due to the aggressive manner in which people relate to each other.
Putting it all in context, Griffith stressed that the spike did not feature hard-core violent offences and that there was a levelling-off of incidents. (SP)
