Amateur boxing in Barbados is about to land a counter-punch after taking several blows over the years.

That’s because following last Saturday night’s boxing card hosted by the Belfield Boxing Gym in association with the Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) at the Wildey Gymnasium, Canada has offered a helping hand to fast track the develop of the sport on the island.

This was revealed by boxing adviser David Straughn in the presence of BBA president Richard Atwell, former boxer and coach Shirley Scantlebury and members from the Canadian boxing fraternity.

“Boxing in Barbados has taken a beating over the last several years and part of our initiative here is to form a greater discussion and sense of awareness as to where we want to take it and to explore the heights that it could reach,” Straughn said. (RG)
