POLICE CONSTABLE Everton Gittens is expected to appear in a Bridgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of civilian Selwyn “Blues” Knight.

Gittens, police and legal sources revealed, spent most of yesterday in police custody being processed for charges recommended by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Charles Leacock, QC, who returned the investigator’s file with his advice to Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith last Thursday, just 24 hours after receiving it.

Charges are also expected to be read to the constable in relation to the shooting of Knight’s son, Junior Knight.

The incident took place when Gittens, a member of the police’s Drug Squad, was off duty and at his home in Dash Road, Bank Hall.

This development stems from a highly publicised incident on March 15 at Dash Road where the father and son, aged 57 and 26, respectively, had chased burglar Jamal Amal Skeete who had just stolen items from their home in Queen Mary Road. (RRM)
