THE COURT OF APPEAL yesterday sent a strong signal to the legal fraternity by disbarring Therold O’Neal Fields and making him repay more than half-a-million dollars to an elderly client.

In the highly anticipated ruling read by Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, flanked by Justices of Appeal Sherman Moore and Sandra Mason, the court ruled that Fields’ name be struck from the roll of attorneys in Barbados, that he pay former client Patricia Simpson $610 000 at an interest rate of eight per cent backdated to October 7, 2008, and that his disbarment be published in the Official Gazette.
