A 21-year-old Christ Church man is scheduled to appear in court this morning, charged with murder and rape of a minor.
He is Shazan Deron Marshall of Parish Land.
The rape is alleged to have occurred on May 12.
Marshall has also been charged with the July 13 murder of Cammeron Ifill, also 21, who was shot and killed at Byrons Lane, Gall Hill, Christ Church.
He is to appear at the Oistins Magistrates’ Court. (PR/SAT)
Dubai – Iran wants control over inbound shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and visibility over outbound traffic, with the ability to intervene if necessary, under a temporary plan being discussed with Oman to reopen the strategic waterway, a senior Iranian source told Reuters on Tuesday.
The source, who is involved in the talks, said this is “the general idea currently being discussed”, and specified that the outbound lane would follow a route between Iran and Oman, with exit clearance granted through Oman after notifying Iran.
“Tehran is unlikely to change its position,” the source added, saying that Tehran has already shown flexibility by moving from its initial position of seeking full control over traffic in both directions in the strait.
Last month, Iran rejected an Omani proposal for an equal division of transit routes between the two countries, which Tehran said failed to address the country’s security concerns until long-term regional stability is achieved.
Control of the strait, the narrow waterway between the Gulf and the Indian Ocean that is the main route for about a fifth of world oil supplies and other vital goods, has been a main sticking point in efforts to end the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
The waterway has been largely blocked since the start of the war in late February. The dispute over Hormuz remains a central point of contention.
Washington says June’s memorandum of understanding with Tehran to halt the war required Iran to reopen the strategic waterway, while Tehran says the text explicitly preserved its authority over shipping traffic.
Before the war, shipping passed freely through the strait, which is in the territorial waters of both Iran and Oman but which is generally regarded as an international waterway.
A so-called two-way traffic separation scheme, which was adopted by the U.N. shipping agency in 1968 with agreement of countries in the region, created the current ship routing system that split sailing corridors through Iranian and Omani waters.
The strait, a strip of water 34 km (21 miles) wide, provides passage from the Gulf to the Indian Ocean and is a main route for energy supplies from the Middle East and other vital goods including fertilisers. (Reuters)
Port of Spain – The Trinidad and Tobago government says it is establishing joint army and police posts at 30 communities across the country within the next four months.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in a statement posted on social media, said that “many communities have for years requested increased security presence and the protective services and government are moving aggressively to provide such.
“These joint army police posts will provide a sense of comfort and help communities regain the use of their public spaces,” she said, encouraging non-government organisations, business chambers, community groups and councils to “adopt and support these posts and work with the security services”.
In her social media post with a photograph of herself and her Homeland Security Minister, Roger Alexander, Persad-Bissessar, who is also head of the National Security Council, expresses “sincere gratitude” to the Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, the director of the Strategic Services Agency (SSA) Alicia Henry, the Chief of Defence Staff Commodore Don Polo as well as the Prison Superintendent Elvin Scanterbury, and other stakeholders for “their shared vision of ending the grip of crime on our nation”.
Trinidad and Tobago recorded 213 murders for the period of January 1 through mid-July this year, according to official Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) data. The figure is a slight decrease compared to the 220 murders recorded during the same period last year.
The island is currently under a state of emergency (SoE) that ends in September.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader, Pennelope Beckles, has described the government’s announcement as “a knee-jerk reaction” to an “unplanned and unfunded” initiative.
She said the patrol is “also a calculated attempt to quietly reintroduce her failed ZOSO (Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO) Bill which was defeated in Trinidad and Tobago’s Senate on January 27, 2026), agenda through the back door.”
Beckles, the leader of the main opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) in a statement, said the move comes ” just days after her false boast that crime was down considerably, while home invasions and murders continue across the country. (CMC)
Port-of-Spain – A superb batting display by Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam have left Pakistan in firm control of the second Test against West Indies at the close of play on the second day yesterday.
Shafique’s unbeaten 107 off 185 balls, coupled with captain Azam’s 86 not out off 126 balls, powered the visitors to a formidable 266 for two in reply to the West Indies’ total of 344 at the Queen’s Park Oval.
The pair has so far added 168 runs for the third wicket to put Pakistan on course to post a mammoth first innings total and give their side a hefty lead, as they trail by just 78 runs heading into today’s third day of play.
West Indies contributed to their own demise with their wayward bowling, gifting Pakistan’s batsmen free runs, with wicket-taking deliveries few and far between.
The home side’s opening pace attack of Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales was inconsistent, with Azan Awais hitting Roach for three consecutive boundaries in the third over of the innings.
Together with partner Imam-ul-Haq, they put on 34 runs inside eight overs, before Shamar Joseph produced a snorter off a good length that hit the top of his bat and ballooned to gully for Jomel Warrican to take an easy catch.
Awais continued to take advantage of the slack bowling on offer, hitting Joseph for four fours in the 12th over to move into the 40s, while Shafique wasted little time in joining in on the action by blasting Warrican for sixes in successive overs.

Commissioner of Police Sonia Boyce commended Barbadians and visitors for being on their best behaviour after the Flow 5G+ Grand Kadooment went off without any major incidents.
Boyce said although the security plans put in place “were thoroughly tested”, it showed the island’s culture can be enjoyed in a safe and orderly way.
“The Barbados Defence Force played a vital role in supporting our overall security posture, working side by side with the Barbados Police Service to strengthen our ability to respond swiftly and maintain public order across the route. We gave special attention to key sections of the route, particularly those areas that are traditionally associated with crowd pressure and access challenges,” she said.
Thousands of people were along the route from Princess Alice to the Mighty Grynner Highway.

The song played 14 times before the judges, one more then People’s Monarch runner-up Leadpipe with Dah Wuh She Get.
It was a close competition. People’s Monarch Shaquille was third with 12 plays for After All.
Mikey earned $10 000 for Tune of the Crop, adding to the $200 000 he already earned by sweeping the Power Soca and Sweet Soca segments of the Party Monarch.

The Barbados Police Service is once again mourning the death of two of its own.
Former Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Griffith, who only retired a few months ago, passed away this morning at his Norththumberland, St Lucy home.
Griffith, 64, was in charge of the criminal division for many years. He was the son of former Assistant Commissioner of Police Alvin Griffith who predeceased him.
Station Sergeant Angela Holder of the Special Branch also passed away today. (MB)
The English Football Association is set to write to FIFA president Gianni Infantino withdrawing its support for him amid the fallout from his scrapped plans to sell off stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors.
It comes as UEFA threatens legal action over the proposals and Wales publicly withdraw backing for Infantino’s bid to continue as FIFA president.
Next March, Infantino is set to stand for re-election for a fourth and final term as president and would need 106 votes from FIFA’s 211 members to win.
Sources have told BBC Sport the Scottish FA’s position on the future of Infantino remains aligned with UEFA’s lack of confidence in the 56-year-old.
Infantino’s leadership had already been publicly questioned by football’s governing bodies in Europe, North and Central America and the Caribbean, with UEFA and Concacaf releasing statements criticising the plans.
FIFA and Infantino wanted to create a commercial subsidiary to run its main events, including its World Cups, and external investors would have been able to buy stakes in it.
World football’s governing body said it would “invite third parties to make minority, non-controlling investments” in a new subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE).
As first reported by The Telegraph, UEFA said in a letter to Infantino “it is actively considering legal action, arbitration, and/or regulatory complaints (together, the ‘proceedings’) arising out of and in connection with the FFE plan proposed by FIFA”.
UEFA added it wants “immediate steps” to “preserve all documents and electronically stored information” in FIFA’s possession “independent” of their internal policies that may result in “routine document destruction or deletion”.

Justin Greaves is at it again.
That is because he saved the West Indies from a batting collapse against Pakistan on the opening day of the second Test, marking another occasion in this present purple patch where he came to the rescue with a big heart and broad bat.
He is on 64 not out, so far the top score of the match, as West Indies ended on 239 for five when bad light brought the day’s play to a close at 5:30 p.m. after 74 overs.

Zico Renaldo Williams was jailed for eight years last Friday as a High Court judge declared a fine was not appropriate for his gun offence.
“Defence counsel spoke of the possibility of a fine, but this clearly is not one of those situations where a fine is appropriate,” Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell said.
“Innocent people were injured because of the accident [and Williams] sought to threaten a young child.
“A custodial sentence is clearly warranted to drive home the seriousness of the offence, to deter others from committing similar offences, to protect society and maintain the public’s confidence in the justice system,” she added.
Williams, who was listed as having no fixed place of abode, had been found guilty of having a .38-Special calibre revolver, as well as 14 bullets, on October 16, 2022.
He was represented by attorneys Kellyanne Blackman and Tania Elliott, while Senior State Counsel Paul Prescod prosecuted the matter. (HLE)
