DEAR CHRISTINE: Trying to rebuild trust

Date:

Share post:

Dear Christine,I’VE BEEN TRYING to pull myself up, but so far I have failed. My problem has to do with a brief affair my husband had with a woman. When it was drawn to my attention and I challenged him, he owned up.I worry he’s still in contact with her, although he says he isn’t, and if he’s late home from work I imagine them together. We’ve had counselling with our pastor but he felt we didn’t need any more. Living with all this is so hard, Christine, and I just don’t know how to cope with my feelings. Please let me hear from you. Thanks.– MSDear MS,It takes time for trust to return after an affair. If your husband’s trying to pretend life is normal again, he isn’t taking your hurt on board.Maybe that’s why he called a stop to the counselling. I guess for him it was prolonging the agony he’d rather forget.Eventually you’ll have to make a decision to move forward. Unless you have absolute proof that he is being unfaithful, you must try to trust him again.
– CHRISTINE
