Gunmen ransack home of Cabinet minister

KINGSTON – Armed bandits held up workers as they ransacked the St Catherine home of Commerce and Industry Minister Karl Samuda on Wednesday.Police said the gunmen used a blowtorch to break into a safe and stole a firearm and ammunition belonging to Samuda. Police said the robbers also made off with a quantity of cash after their two-hour rampage. No one was injured during the incident.Samuda, who is also the general secretary of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party, said while he felt violated by the incident, it highlighted the need for strong action against criminal elements in the Jamaican society.“This has strengthened my resolve and commitment to fight, with every ounce of energy I possess, the scourge of criminality, failing which our country has no future,” he told a local newspaper.Police are investigating the incident.
