The Community fever is alive an well in St. Peter, with work ongoing for the Ribbons Of Hope, Junior Kadooment Band.Already the wheels are in motion, as beautiful headpieces decorated the home of Band leader/designer Trevor Nicholls in Mount Brevitor St. Peter.Nicholls, who has not brought a costume band since 1995, said he felt the need to bring one this year to highlight some of the diseases plaguing the society.The band, which hopes to cater to 200 children features seven sections.The first section Special Care, is divided into two segments and will encompass silver and green ribbons which represents children with disabilities, while white ribbons will represent those with osteoporosis. The green will also represent environmental issues and to raise earthquake awareness.Hope Alive is the second segment, and features red, yellow and orange ribbons, signifying HIV/AIDS Awareness, Substance Abuse, yellow for the general symbol of hope and orange for leukemia and hunger.It’s Puzzling is the third section, featuring a jigsaw ribbon of red, yellow and blue representing autism, which Nicholls is still very much a puzzling disease.Gone To Soon is a special section dedicated to Nicholls brother, who died two years ago, and incorporates black, white and blue ribbons. The black and blue signifies the loss of a brother or male child, while the white represents pure innocence.Misfortune will see pink and blue ribbons for still births and miscarriages and premature births and grey ribbons for diabetes.Praying and Coping carries the purple, gold & pink ribbons. Purple signifies lupus or domestic violence, while the gold is for childhood cancer. Pink is the colour representing childhood cancer.And the final segment is Saving Lives, which has a host of mixed colours.
