DARIAN KING has reached the men’s quarter-finals of the annual Courtesy Garage Tennis Championships which served off over the weekend at the Hilton Courts.King, who recently competed at the highest level on clay at Roland Garros and on grass at Wimbledon, had a 6-0, 6-3 Sean Bullen.He now plays the confident Ryan Moseley who has just returned from a successful Davis Cup competition. Moseley reached the quarters with a comfortable win over 15-year-old Matthew Hutchinson in the second round 6-0, 6-1. Duncan Evanson had a tough round to reach his quarter-final berth, triumphing over a tenacious Devard Wharton by taking the match 5-7, 6-2 6-3. He awaits the winner of veteran Bernard Frost and Morehead University team member Bradley Bryan.Seanon Williams began his campaign to the final with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Michael Jordan while his quarter-finals opponent Kenton Gamble beat Ryan Forde 6-3 6-2. The semi-final between Williams and Gamble saw a straightforward win for Williams 6-0, 6-2. He awaits the result of the quarter-final encounter between Russell Moseley and Luke Humphrey. Moseley was leading 6-0, 3-0 in the second when Humphrey retired due to heat exhaustion.Jackson Kerr was a surprise winner in straight sets over No. 4 seed Mykell Reifer 6-4 7-5.Play continues weekdays from 4 p.m. with the men’s final scheduled for tomorrow night.
