Defending champions Combermere will be protesting the outcome of yesterday’s semi-final of the LIME Under-15 Cricket Competition which would see them not advancing to the final. At Beckles Road not a ball was bowled in the match where Combermere were on 216-7 against Nature Valley Lodge. Roddy Estwick, cricket master at Combermere, told the SATURDAY SUN neither school was informed by the umpires that the match had been abandoned, but both had left the ground. If that no-decision stands, Lodge would face Garrison in the final, both having scored more points in the preliminaries. When the rains returned at 1:50 p.m. similar showers erupted from some of the eyes of the lads from Waterford who have established a winning culture in sports over the years. At least half an hour before that, former Barbados player Estwick patrolled the grounds trying to determine why the officials had not started the game and loudly expressed his disgust with how the events were turning out.“What am I supposed to tell those 15 youngsters who turned up here wanting to play cricket and who are willing to play when the conditions are far better than some that we have played on before?” Estwick asked. The match between Garrison and Deighton Griffith was officially called off at 2:35 p.m. without any play. Garrison were 49 for five replying to Deighton Griffith’s 124.
