Station Hill yesterday laid claim to having the only rocking Kadooment Day funeral business headquarters as more than 200 people partied in the building opposite the Police Complex. The sign outside of the building said simply “S.T. Ellis’ Funeral & Pre-Planning Services”, but there was an all-day fete inside, with a DJ and plenty to eat and drink. The entertainment was organised by the Togetherness Social Group and couple Simeon and Cheryl Ellis, who run the funeral service and insurance brokerage operating in the building.Yesterday’s guests included people from New York, Florida, Bermuda and Martinique, all in for the annual Crop-Over festival and also using the building’s great vantage point to view the Kadooment bands and thousands of revellers. President of the Togetherness Social Group, Pat Parris, said the entertainment package was launched last year and was bigger and better this year.Among those dropping in was former Minister of Health, Jerome Walcott, who said he had taken a year off jumping with a band.Artist Omowale Stewart and former Barbados Labour Party candidate Rudy Grant also spent time at the venue. There are at least four funeral businesses in the area between the National Stadium and Eastmond Corner, Bank Hall.
