Bajan lasses crush St Lucia

KINGSTOWN – Barbados announced themselves as major title contenders with an emphatic win over St Lucia as the West Indies Cricket Board’s Women’s 50-over League continued yesterday with the third round of matches. The Bajans bundled out the St Lucians for a mere 47 runs off 19.4 overs at Arnos Vale Playing Field 2. They then raced to 48 for two off 16.2 overs to win by eight overs before lunch, to end Zone A with eight points and qualify for today’s semi-finals.Barbados captain and fast bowler Shakera Selman was the star player with five for 24 from nine overs, while all-rounder Kyshonna Knight took two for 8 from five overs with her medium-pace. Barbados included powerful fast bowler Dawn-Marie Layne, who was called back from England as a replacement for an injured player. She bowled with great pace and swung the ball, but went wicketless.When the Bajans batted, Knight’s twin sister Kycia hit 12, while veteran Pam Lavine made 10 not out.The win was Barbados’ second big victory following they 224-run mauling of Dominica on Friday.
