BARBADOS Auto Racing League’s (BARL) championship leader Jason Harewood wants to take home two titles and is not worried about the competition expected in the Digicel Williams International race meet later this month.Harewood, who is also the Group 2B leader and will be at the wheel of the Do-It-Best/JVM Signage/Castrol/Gaskin’s Garage Toyota Starlet, said he was focused on the business ahead as he prepares for the event under the watchful eye of technical specialist Leeson Moe, Greg ‘Cheezie’ Catwell and his family. He said his ‘works’ crew wasn’t taking things lightly and wanted to maintain the momentum started earlier this year. After making a clean sweep at the July race meet, a confident Harewood told MIDWEEK SPORT that he knows that apart from drivers such as Robert Gill, Freddie Mapp and Colin Read, he could have additional competition from the region to contend with and due consideration was being given to that aspect of the international event.“I am not worried about the competition, but focused on the demands of the event. I am motivated by technical specialist Leeson Moe and his team, as well as by ‘Cheezie’ Catwell and my family and I want to do well and take home the championship,” Harewood said.Saying that it feels great to be leading Group 2B and the overall championship of the Barbados Auto Racing League, Harewood, who has so far amassed a total of 135 points, said he was looking forward to doing well, while pleasing himself and his sponsors. And his efforts were boosted when chief operating officer of Do-It-Best Home Centre, Abraham Steinbok, presented him with a cheque recently to assist with his preparations for the international race meet.Steinbok said he was pleased with the progress Harewood was making in the sport and confirmed his company’s support, especially as he prepares for the international race meet.He said motorsport fits in with the company’s core values and said Harewood has the company’s full support and they wished him well. The Digicel Williams International race meet has attracted drivers from Ireland, Britain and the Caribbean. The highlight will be the second round of the Caribbean Motoring Racing Championship for Groups 2, 3 and 4 cars and for the first time 600cc motorcycles. Jamaica’s David Summerbell is the defending champion.
