Johnson to lead team to world tourney

BARBADOS have selected a team led by James Johnson for their second appearance at the World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) to be held in Argentina from October 16 to 31.The announcement was made by president of the Barbados Golf Association Birchmore Griffith, who said that participation in Argentina would be an expensive undertaking and fund-raising efforts were under way.“The WATC is the highest amateur competition we would get to play in. You are playing against the best of the world,” he said.The team comprises Johnson, Sean Edey, and Marcus Clarke, with Julian Jordan the reserve. The selection was based on performances in the Hoerman Cup championship which Barbados won in commanding style at Royal Westmoreland from June 27 to July 4. Johnson was the leading individual in the Hoerman Cup. (HH)
