An onion shortage which has vendors and householders crying out could be eased by Monday. So says Glendene Bartlett, acting chief executive officer at the Barbados Agricultural Development & Marketing Corporation (BADMC), the sole importer.Bartlett said a shortage was experienced last weekend because a shipment was unable to be opened on time.Bartlett said a fresh shipment should be available on Monday.Meanwhile, a vegetable vendor who sells mostly onions blamed the onion shortage on an import ban put in place two to three weeks ago. He said vegetable vendors were at a disadvantage now that the BADMC had become the lone importer of onions free of duty. (LK)
