Guess who is coming to Barbados?
None other than Mary! Yes it’s true the megahit and well loved play, which has become an unrivalled benchmark of Trinidad and Tobago theatre, is coming to Barbados!
Mary Could Dance is coming to Barbados for the first and only time in 2010 for three exclusive nights at the Frank Collymore Hall.
The critically acclaimed and box office success that is Mary Could Dance will be on for three nights only: tonight, tomorrow and Sunday at the Frank Collymore Hall.
The play, which is considered among the best ever of regional theatre, has been running since 1998, and has had close to 200 performances throughout Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Grenada, St Vincent, St Lucia and Ireland.
It has been sold out wherever it has been performed – and to standing ovations. Rights to do the play have also been sought by theatre companies in Jamaica, the United States and England.
Mary Could Dance currently holds the Trinidad and Tobago national record for the most Cacique Theatre Awards ever won by a single production, sweeping the awards and winning ten of the 15 that were up for grabs.
It is also in advanced stages to be produced as a major motion picture.
Barbados now has a chance to laugh and experience a roller coaster of emotional excitement when they see this warm and sometimes scandalous comedy. The story unfolds when three dancers/prostitutes face the return of one of their group’s first love back from living for 11 years in the United States.
Mary Could Dance features everything from exotic dancing, to catfights, to romance, to the antics of the scandalous pimp/bar owner Mule. The No.1 play of Trinidad and Tobago will take audiences on a journey it will never forget.
The play was written by Richard Ragoobarsingh and directed by Raymond Choo Kong, and features Penelope Spencer, Cecilia Salazar, Richard Ragoobarsingh, Glenn Davis, Dionne McNicol and Roger Dickie. (PR)
