School girl stabbed to death

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – A 15-year-old Form Five student was stabbed to death during an altercation with another student today.
Police said that the 17-year-old attacker remains in custody after Kylie Garcia was stabbed with a knife as the two students fought outside the Matelot Community College School, east of here.  The student was pronounced dead at the district health centre.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education expressed condolences to Garcia’s relatives, saying that a team from its Student Support Services Division would be sent to the school on Tuesday in an attempt to provide counselling to students affected by the incident.
Meanwhile, five students of a secondary school in St,. James, west of here, are due to appear in court on Tuesday on charges of rape and grievous sexual assault after surrendering to police.
The students, ages 15 to 17, were charged after their 12-year-old alleged victim told police that she had been raped on September 17 and October 11. (CMC)
