ANTICIPATION TURNED TO ANGER and a few tears among several supporters of deposed Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley in the yard of Parliament Buildings yesterday as they awaited word on her fate.
The crowd, made up mainly of women, mobbed Mottley when she arrived wearing a red shirt and black trousers, and assured her of their loyalty.
This was also expressed with a few placards and in cries such as Don’t Step Down and We Need You from more vocal supporters.
Amid the frenzy outside, there was concern inside for the future of the four people employed by Mottley in her capacity as Leader of the Opposition.
One young member of the BLP gave his view of the political situation.
He told the Daily Nation: “Even if they have a problem with Mottley, work with her. The people in this country said they wanted a change. They went to the polls and the young people voted in the Democratic Labour Party.
“Mia Amor Mottley has the young people on her side and she should be leading this party.”
There was some activity at the Opposition Office in the West Wing of Parliament as Mottley first met behind closed doors with BLP MPs Cynthia Forde, Dr William Duguid and Rawle Eastmond.
Following this meeting, she called her staff inside for another closed door meeting.
Milling around the reception area were women angrily expressing their views, while others paced the yard under the watchful eyes of officers of the Royal Barbados Police Force.
When Mottley finally apeared on the steps to make a Press statement, the crowd had grown, and among them were other members of the Mottley family who turned up to give support.
