Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados Dr DeLisle Worrell says companies here have been holding strain and maintaining employment levels for the past two years but there was the possibility of layoffs in the near future.
While he did not expect there would be a significant increase in the island’s unemployment figures, continued flat or falling company revenues could result in some layoffs.
Unemployment in Barbados stands at 10.7 per cent.
