Police have arrested the driver and two porters of the truck that was involved in a vehicular accident that claimed the lives of 13 persons and injured five others in Sussanah Corentyne Brerbice on Friday. A police statement late Friday night said it was raining heavy “when the driver of the motor lorry overtook another vehicle and ended up in the lane of the mini-bus, resulting in a head-on collision”.
The police said that as a result, the driver and 11 others who were in the mini-bus were killed, while five other passengers, have been hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Hospital and Georgetown Public Hospital.
Among those killed is a three-month old baby, Joseph Khan. The police said that the ages of the others killed ranged from 14 to 42 years. (CMC)
