Caricom bids farewell to Osborne

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping has expressed sadness at the death of former Montserrat Chief Minister John Osborne who died in the United States on January 2 after a long illness. He was 74.
CARICOM Chairman and Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas hailed Osborne as a “quintessential politician, statesman and Caribbean integrationist”.
“Osborne’s distinguished service to the land of his birth and the region earned him the respect of his native Montserrat and of the Caribbean as a whole.
A meaningful tribute to his leadership capacity was the people’s trust in his ability by electing him on two occasions to the post of chief minister – first in 1978 and again in 2001,” Thomas said. (CMC)
