THEY ARE painting the town yellow – and it’s all about getting the message out.
Recently, you may have noticed an increase in the number of brightly painted yellow sno-cone carts, a crashed car and even surfboards, some of which are strategically located around the island.
According to Pam Roach, marketing manager of Global Directories, this was “a good way to get our message out”.
Global Directories is an authorized producer of the telephone directory on behalf of Cable & Wireless (Barbados) Limited.
While not disclosing any details, Roach told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY the company would be rolling out “a few more things”.
“We wanted to use a different form of advertising to show people that anything you need can be found in the Yellow Pages. So it is like, anything you need, just say hello yellow.
“We have the crashed car, which we have been getting a lot of comments about. I think it is more impactful.
“We are using about five different messages on the sno-cone vendors’ carts. It is the first of its kind in the Caribbean,” she said.
Roach said there were a number of vendors “lined up” to have their carts branded. She said while people used their telephone directories “quite a lot”, she believed there were still quite a few who weren’t aware of the different categories in them.
“Of course, this will also help businesses. We have two different types of publics – persons who use the book and those who advertise in the book,” she said.
Some sno-cone vendors have expressed delight at having their carts painted, noting that they also saw benefits in it.
Popular gospel singer Sister Margrita Marshall and Denzil Burgess both operate their sno-cone businesses from the Cheapside bus terminal.
Marshall, who has been selling the well-liked drink for over 35 years, said it was a good idea and she believed that having businesses advertised in such a way would be “helpful” to both her and them.
Burgess, who has been in the sno-cone business since 1970, told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY that it could help his business.
“You know, business fluctuates. But I think the art is very good because it is a brighter colour on the cart and makes it look more attractive,” he said.
The sno-cone vendors were given an incentive to have their carts painted. (MM)
