THERE IS A NEW club helping to address the prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases in Barbados.
The Knights Health Advantage Club is offering its members free health checks every three months and discounts at Knights pharmacies, as well as counselling and seminars.
Co-ordinator and pharmacist Bernard Bailey spoke to the SUNDAY SUN at the official launch yesterday at Accra Beach Hotel & Resort, Rockley, Christ Church.
“This is a wellness programme designed to help people monitor and manage chronic illnesses in between their doctor visits.
“We were looking at different ways of doing business. It is easier to just give medications but it is better to educate people and help them to help themselves. This is a complete package, with both education and medication,” he said.
Bailey said members would be entitled to free blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index tests every three months, but had the option to pay for more testing at a discounted rate.
In addition, everyone who joins the club gets a special passport which has a record of all test results and also receives bonus Magna points.
Pharmaceutical manager of Knights Pharmacy, Andrew Bourne, said club members would be taking greater responsibility for their health, and the programme would result in improved health and productivity, which in turn would reduce the health care bill and insurance claims. (CA)
