An incident at the start of their first trip to the island persuaded Carol Dragona and her husband William Stanton to visit Barbados uninterrupted for the past 22 years.
Dragona shared her story while attending the Barbados Tourism Authority’s function at Ilaro Court for multiple visitors to the island on Thursday night.
She disclosed that after much persuasion she was able to get her fiancé at the time to visit Barbados back in 1989.
“The first day in Barbados we took a walk along Dover Beach where we bought some souvenirs from a vendor on the beach only to realize that we were $5 short.
“We both went to a shop at the corner of St Lawrence Gap, bought some Banks beers in order to get some change. The proprietor then said that he had just opened and that he could not change our US money.
“When that shop owner realized our predicament, he opened his till and gave us money to go and pay the beach vendor while indicating that we could repay him as well as pay for the beer the next time that we passed that area. My fiancé was then sold on Barbados and we have returned every year since then,” Dragona said.
The couple reside in New Jersey, United States. (KB)
