$32m for primary health care

This year the Ministry of Health will spend approximately $32 million on primary healthcare services.  
Minister of Health Donville Inniss said that in recent years they have placed considerable financial and human resources coupled with an abundance of public debate on the issue of tertiary care in Barbados, focusing so much on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital much to the disadvantage of primary where it really should matter most. 
Speaking today at The Renewal Of Primary Health Care Consultation And Sensitization Workshop At The Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre , Inniss said through a network of eight polyclinics and three satellite clinics offering a comprehensive range of clinical and community services in the primary care setting where most Barbadians access healthcare.
Stating that it is where most community based healthcare needs are addressed, he added that it is imperative that as we seek to address the healthcare challenges of Barbados much of the resources and energy should be directed to the area that can yield the greatest return on the investment in healthcare.
