T-tennis ‘school’ in session

Local table tennis players have thrown down their rackets and returned to the classroom, putting themselves at the mercy of their Egyptian guest Mohamed Gharib.
The Egyptian table tennis coach is working with the Barbados Table Tennis Association until July.
Gharib, whose visit is sponsored by the Barbados Olympic Association under the Olympic Solidarity programme, is conducting a level one International Table Tennis Federation coaching course.
The event, which started on Monday, is a rigorous 30-hour programme that continued throughout the week and will go into the weekend.
Participants meet for three hours – from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. each day – at the Table Tennis Centre, Nursery Drive, St Michael.
The sessions, which comprise both theory and practice, will continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow and will end on Sunday after a full day of activity.
The Table Tennis Association remains committed to hosting another level one course before the end of this stint by Gharib.
Competition in all the divisions of the club championship as well as action in the National Senior Games has been cancelled for the week.
The normal schedule will resume next Tuesday with Division 2 matches, on Wednesday with the Senior Games, on Thursday with the Division 1 competition and on Friday with action in the third division. (PH)
