KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Jamaica police Friday confirmed that it is investigations allegations that rogue police officers were planning to murder a councillor affiliated to the main opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
Police Commissioner Owen Ellington said he had assigned investigators to the matter after the councillor Enos Lawrence made the allegations against the rogue cops to him.
Lawrence claimed that he had been reliably informed of the alleged plot on his life and expressed fear for his life and the safety of his family.
However, the top cop criticised Lawrence for going public with his allegation before allowing the police to properly investigate his claim.
“This is particularly worrying, though not unexpected, at this time when the police are progressing a successful strategy to dismantle gangs which has been linked to several hundred murders and repeated attacks on the police in St Catherine over recent years,” Ellington said in a statement.
“Mr Lawrence should now come forward and cooperate with the police in investigating this serious allegation which he has made and be prepared to disclose all information he has which can support a speedy and complete investigation,” he added. (CMC)
