Contestants in this year’s Island Queen competition hosted a food drive for the HIV/AIDS Food Bank as part of their I Am Aware campaign last Friday at the Casuarina Sports Bar.
According to Paul Parris, marketing director of Island Queen, the event was a huge success.
“The young ladies were able to raise four large boxes of canned goods which we will donate to the Food Bank. Additionally, some of the contestants, grouped under the name Las Reinas, distributed red ribbons which they made and accepted monetary donations for the Food Bank from people who supported the cause.”
The night also included a karaoke session at which the Island Queen contestants sang duets with the bar’s patrons.
The I Am Aware Evening and HIV/AIDS Food Bank drive came after a workshop earlier in the week with representatives from the National HIVAIDS Commission, who prepped the girls and shared relevant information on HIV and AIDS.
“Our HIV Awareness campaign is something we take very seriously and this is a testament to that,” Parris said.
The Island Queen show takes place tomorrow at Black Pearl Restaurant, Hastings, Christ Church. (PR)
