CANCER HAS AFFECTED every Barbadian at some point in life. Fresh on the mind is the death of Prime Minister David Thompson, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last October.
It was against that backdrop that BrightStars Inc. hosted Jazz@Holders 2011 on Saturday night in aid of the Barbados Cancer Society.
A highlight was the musical tribute to Thompson, which brought the curtain down on the exciting evening of jazz.
The evening featured performances from a band made up of stellar musicians, with bassist Bill Myers as musical director. Featured vocalists were James Walker, who sings lead for R&B sensation Toy Factory, and Barbados’ own Ria Borman.
Here, guitarist/vocalist Orly Penate as he put his all into one of the pieces that got the group in the jazziest of grooves.
