Event specialists network

More than 20 representations of event-support businesses from across North America were in Barbados last week for the internal meetings of TEAMNet, a network of event experts.
The three-day meeting was hosted by local company Field Tech Staging Solutions Inc., the only Caribbean partner, which has been a member of the TEAMNet group since 2005.
Field Tech’s director of business development, Peter Lewis, told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY that involvement in the network enables the business “to call on a plethora of services of a high standard”.
These services include entertainment planning, talent sourcing, lighting, meeting planning, conference management, and incentive travel.
“We expect that since the partners are here, they will have a more in-depth idea of what the island can offer the special events industry in their markets,” he said, noting that he hoped partners would also identify locations on the island which can be used for film shoots.
Lewis said a New York-based company which joined the group this year has already indicated its interest in moving performance and cultural groups between Barbados and New York.
He said one of the big advantages of belonging to a network was that partners are able to draw on Field Tech’s resources to satisfy their clients.
“One of the things we’ve done in the past is that we’ve supplied talent and performers for events these people have in the Caribbean. The last one would’ve been on Young Island [St Vincent and The Grenadines] two years ago when an international client came through and required Caribbean talent and we provided that talent out of Barbados,” he said.
He added that international partnerships can help broaden local companies’ knowledge base as it relates to systems, best practices, and experiences through the free flow of information and “the capacity to draw on company resources in terms of current trends and market changes”. (NB)
