Well, soul, I ain’t had nuh big luncheon at none o’ dem nice fancy restaurants, nor nuhbody ain’t give me nuh spa treatment nor a weekend tuh relax at a hotel pon the South or West Coast either.
I ain’t get lavished wid nuh big expensive gifts neither, except fuh a very nice handbag dat my youngest daughter brought fuh me the same morning.
On Mother’s Day I got up as usual and get muhself ready fuh the house o’ the Lord; I enjoyed a nice service, come back home, sit down and eat a li’l something by muhself, get a li’l nap and then get ready and went tuh the Mother’s Day show at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
I ain’t know who had the better time at the Mum, This One’s For You Mother’s Day concert – the patrons or the entertainers.
I couldn’t believe my two eyes when I get in there. The place was almost full and I get there before 5 o’clock for a 5:30 show.
From the time the National Anthem finished and the MC Alff Padmore come pon the stage, the people were ready and expecting a great time.
The truth is, I ain’t know the last time I had such a nice time at a local show, although I must admit dat ya doan get too many o’ these kinda shows anymore. Duh does come suh few and far between and the people in my age group nowadays doan really have anywhere tuh go where they could sit back, kick duh shoes off in a relaxed and safe environment and enjoy an evening out.
But, as I was saying, the atmosphere was cool and nice and, look, the women turn up looking real hot. I gine tell you something now: at one time I find myself checking wuh I had on as tuh compare wid how some o’ the old girls did turn out.
Talking bout deck out! Lemmuh tell ya something: you woulda never guess who was granny from who was only mummy, ’cause a lot o’ dem old girls did outdoing the young ones in how dem was decked out.
The other thing is this: it wasn’t the clothes alone dat had dem looking suh young and good, ya know. My dear, it was the wigs. My Lord, I stand up and check dem out good as they pass me.
I gine tell ya, wigs enough get sell fuh dat show. Duh had long Rapunzel wigs, short Rihanna wigs wid the hair long pon one side; duh had on the ones dat does be frizzly and kick up all round yuh head; then there were the straight ones, the wriggly ones, the ones wid the streaks, the salt and pepper ones, the Jheri curl ones, and even the occasional blonde hairpieces.
Doan talk ’bout the footwear. These hotties had on some o’ the latest in footwear, nuh old granny shoes.
I think the show has been going for the past nine or ten years.
It used tuh be at the Plantation Restaurant, but it like it outlive dat place – which is wonderful.
