NCC looks to cut energy bill

Faced with an “astronomical” energy bill, the National Conservation Commission (NCC) has been employing several cost-saving measures, according to deputy general manager Michael Thompson.
Speaking to the Press at the commission’s Codrington Hill headquarters yesterday, Thompson said water wastage at public facilities was a major problem prompting the installation of water-saving devices at beach and other public facilities, while widespread use of solar lighting was being considered for most
NCC operated facilities.  Solar lighting has already been installed in Queen’s Park and on some lifeguard towers. It serves as a warning system on the conditions of the beach for beachgoers.
Thompson also said solar lighting would be installed in the Oistins Bay Garden.
A rainwater harvesting system is also being considered for the Codrington headquarters, where hundreds of plants are being propogated, for irrigation of the nurseries. (GC)
