Power cuts put out 12 000

Between 10 000 and 12 000 customers at any given time yesterday would have been without electricity for at least an hour as a result of damage to one of the Barbados Light & Power Company’s (BL&P) circuit breakers at Spring Garden.
Stephen Worme, chief marketing officer of the BL&P, said the problem began at about 8 o’clock yesterday morning when one of the insulators on the Spring Garden system failed.
And up to 6 p.m. last evening, two areas, Oistins and the Bath Village areas in Christ Church, were still without power.
These two areas account for about 4 000 to 6 000 customers.
“During the course of that period, because we were not able to get power from those two 20-megawatt turbines back onto the system, we did not have enough capacity to meet the full load during this morning and after lunch, so what we had to do, we had rotating outages during the course of the day,” said Worme.
