Seismic activity did not cause the deadly collapse of the Shalom apartment complex at Arch Cot Terrace, Brittons Hill, St Michael, in August 2007.
Deputy director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr Lorna Inniss, told the Coroner’s Court yesterday the data that was reviewed from the site between midnight and 10 a.m. on the day of the collapse did not show any seismic activity at Arch Cot.
She explained that she was an oceanographer and not an expert in seismology, but that she had reviewed data from the site with Dr Dan McNamara, an expert seismologist from the United States.
Even though she said there was no reason to believe that the lone seismic station at Gun Hill, St George, had malfunctioned at the time, Inniss suggested that data from two other neighbouring stations be analysed by the experts.
