CARIFTA athletes visit Ilaro Court

THE 2011 BARBADOS CARIFTA TEAM were the toast of Ilaro Court on Saturday night as the young athletes were honoured by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart for their achievements.
The grand affair began with the athletes being greeted by Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley and chairman of the National Sports Council Seibert Straughn, before heading through a guard of honour made up of a tuk band and stilt walkers as well as members of the national cheerleading team.
From there, the athletes were serenaded by the National Steel Pan Orchestra and they were praised by members of Government.
Prime Minister Stuart had a message for the team. He told them they were not confined to Barbados and the Caribbean.
“It is now time for you to shine beyond the Caribbean and show the world that even though you have come from a small country, you have the same capacities as people born in much larger environments,” he said. (CA)
