THE BARBADOS FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (BFA) has refused to send two of its executive members to The Bahamas to be interrogated by FIFA-appointed investigators into the bribery scandal that resulted in last month’s suspension of Austin “Jack” Warner as vice-president of the world governing body.
Reliable sources told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday the decision was taken at a BFA? executive council meeting on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the local football executive, headed by Minister of Education Ronald Jones, has dispatched correspondence to FIFA indicating that its two council members, general secretary David Hinds and executive member Mark “Bob” Forde would be available for questioning in Barbados only.
Earlier this month several regional football federations, including Barbados, were summoned for interviews in Miami where former FBI head Louis Freeh was to start alleged bribery investigations. $80 000 in offers
Forde and Hinds were the local association’s representatives at the controversial May meeting in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, where offers of over $80 000 were allegedly made to respective representatives in exchange for a vote for Asian soccer chief Bin Hamman, who was seeking the FIFA?presidency.
