A coordinated response at the trans-regional level is a must to contain and disrupt organized crime networks before they adapt to any government counter-measures, says Retired Major Horace Kirton.
Kirton, speaking at the closing ceremony for participants of a Subject Matter Expert Exchange course at the Barbados Coast Guard headquarters, said combat methods like developing a clearer picture of the trends would enable governments to better deploy investigative techniques across the Caribbean.
The Central Liaison Office director of the Regional Security System (RSS), pointing out that the converging threats included “the drug flow between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe, human smuggling and trafficking in persons”, said intelligence and information sharing needed to be enhanced.
