Call for more people input

FORMER CHIEF executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Antonio “BOO” Rudder is encouraging greater people’s participation in the Crop Over Festival, saying it can reduce dependence on Government for support.
“We need to encourage participation at all levels,” he said. “Where we fall down in Barbados is that in many cases we don’t set standards. If we set standards that people understand that they must meet, then I feel we can raise the level of the game.” 
Rudder, one of the panellists on STARCOM Network Inc.’s call-in radio show Brass Tacks Sunday, said yesterday that Crop Over had “facilitated interesting developments” within [the informal] economy and referred to entertainment entities doing business during the season.
He also queried why an individual should have to get an entertainment licence to hold “a series of occasional fetes”. (JS)
