THOSE WHO FINANCED the Rihanna LOUD concert at Kensington Oval Friday have benefited from their investment and are looking to have the superstar do other projects in Barbados.
Noting that the economic benefits in the last week had outstripped the $4 million investment, top tourism officials David Rice and Adrian Elcock said yesterday that gains were already being felt in terms of global publicity, which was likely to translate into increased arrivals.
“People now understand what I’ve been saying about the power of social media,” said Elcock, chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), in pinpointing the online coverage which Crop Over and Barbados got from Rihanna’s participation in Grand Kadooment last Monday.
“Generally, this kind of exposure is an investment we can never make with Government’s marketing budget,” he added, disclosing that Government spent $90 million a year to market Barbados. (RJ/GC)
