Paper barrier knocked

The absence of “paper qualifications” will soon stop being a barrier to highly experienced civil servants getting promoted to top posts in Government.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart gave this assurance yesterday, addressing hundreds of Democratic Labour Party (DLP) supporters, who were told there were some posts for which a degree was required.
Addressing the final day of the 56th annual DLP conference at the party’s headquarters in George Street, St Michael, Stuart said that the Public Service Order of 2001 was currently undergoing the “necessary review” while the Public Service Act of 2007 was soon to be amended.
The moves will help the advance of public servants with years of working experience but without the required certification to land certain jobs.
