PM’s warning

GOVERNMENT?will not tolerate employers using the downturn in the economy as an excuse to encroach on and erode the fundamental rights of employees.
This warning was issued by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday as he delivered the feature address at the opening of the Barbados Workers’ Union’s (BWU) 70th annual delegates conference at Solidarity House.
“Let me reiterate that my administration will treat the practice of denying workers their rights under any guise as totally unacceptable,” he told the large audience which included BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman and Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo.
Stuart said that Government, as the largest employer, would continue to respect the rights of workers.
