Talks have broken down between the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s board.
The much anticipated negotiations, stretching back to the beginning of this year, were scheduled to address doctors’ employment contracts, terms and conditions of their service, as well as accountability and transparency in relation to the management of doctors at the island’s main health care institution.
The meeting to conclude those negotiations was held yesterday, after the QEH?board was directed by Minister of Health Donville Inniss on June 8 to end negotiations with BAMP by monthend.
But, in a prepared text, BAMP stated yesterday that the negotiations had broken down and accused the QEH board of refusing to engage with the medical practitioners’ body, while the board denied this, adding that it could not discuss salary increases and was leaving the door open for further discussion.
